Day 1- Getting my bearings

A 6am arrival time at my apartment (3am west coast) meant naptime for me. After recovering from the night flight I set forth to clean and organize my new apartment space. I'll admit my apartment is no WA DC townhouse like last summer but my 3 friendly roommates and I are cozy in our "widdle" (Betsy's word to describe our place) Herald Tower space.

My parents and I discovered a food chain that I really do hope reaches Seattle someday. The restaurant chain is called Pax they specialize in wholesome food (i.e. sandwiches, paninis, fruit and build your own salads-my favorite!). The reasonably priced food, speedy and friendly service was my lunch and dinner today and I feel many more meals to come this summer.

As for getting my bearings my parents and I made our way over to the my office on 42nd street. We, also, bought our 48-hour Greyline bus tickets and enjoyed a city tour on top of the double-decker buses. I recommend these tours to anyone new in town. The tour guides fill you in on insightful city facts and you are able to get on and off at your leisure throughout the day.

To round out a busy day of traveling, organizing and the beginning of my city exploration my parents and I went to the Broadway musical Mamma Mia. This is one of my favorite musicals! I was introduced to it for the first time on stage in WA DC last summer and I have to admit it was even more wonderful the second time on Broadway. Go figure.

Fun NYC Facts:
-It is a 45 min. walk across the Brooklyn bridge, one way.
- For all you coffee drinking Seattelites there are 109 Starbucks in NY.
- 1.8 million people live on Manhattan Island. However, 7.3 million people commute to Manhattan during the work week.

Reference tip for future posts: The 5 boroughs of NY- The Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.
